Notes – Galations 6

Galatians 6 – Bear and Sow Wisely

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NKJV)
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” (v. 7)
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (v. 14)

🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)

  • Final instructions for how to live in Christian community
  • A call to humilityservice, and personal responsibility
  • A powerful truth: we reap what we sow
  • Paul ends with a boast — not in himself, but in Christ crucified
  • Marks of true discipleship are inward, not outward

📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)

1. Restore Gently, Bear Burdens (vv. 1–5)

“If anyone is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one…”
Correction should be gentle and humble, not harsh
“Bear one another’s burdens…”
Help carry what others can’t — but also:
“Each one shall bear his own load.”
We each have personal responsibility for our walk

2. Support the Ministry, Sow Well (vv. 6–10)

“Let him who is taught the word share in all good things…”
Financial and practical support for those teaching the Word is biblical
“Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

  • Sow to the flesh = corruption
  • Sow to the Spirit = eternal life

“Do not grow weary while doing good…”
Your harvest may be slow, but it is coming

3. Live to the Cross, Not the Crowd (vv. 11–16)

“They desire to make a good showing in the flesh…”
False teachers boast in outward signs (like circumcision)
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross…”
Paul finds identity not in works, but in Christ crucified
“Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision… but a new creation.”

4. Final Words (vv. 17–18)

“I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.”
Paul has suffered for Christ — the true mark of a servant
“Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.”

🔁 COMPARE THIS CHAPTER WITH THE REST OF SCRIPTURE

  • Burden Bearing:
    • Romans 15:1 – Bear with the failings of the weak
    • Matthew 11:28–30 – Jesus gives rest for the weary
  • Sowing and Reaping:
    • Proverbs 22:8 – He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow
    • Hosea 10:12 – Sow righteousness, reap mercy
  • The Cross Alone:
    • 1 Corinthians 2:2 – I determined to know nothing but Christ crucified
    • Philippians 3:3 – We boast in Christ Jesus, not in the flesh

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)

Principle: Walk humbly, help others, and keep sowing — your reward is eternal.

  1. Carry the Weight for a Brother in Need
Don’t walk past people who are struggling — engage gently
  2. Examine Your Own Walk
Don’t compare — test your own work and motives
  3. Sow Good Seeds Today
Every word, action, and dollar sown in the Spirit will bear fruit
  4. Boast Only in the Cross
If your identity is in Jesus, you’ve got nothing to prove and nothing to hide
