A Bigger Tent, A Dimmer Light: Pope Leo and the Coming Falling Away

A new Reuters report reveals Pope Leo XIV—the first U.S.-born pope—openly signaling a major change in direction for the Catholic Church. On his flight home from Africa, he told reporters that “the unity or division of the Church should not revolve around sexual matters.” He argued that issues like justice, equality, and freedom must take priority over sexual ethics, while still backing the informal blessings for same-sex couples started under Pope Francis—drawing the line only at formalizing them or changing marriage doctrine.

In plain language, this is a deliberate downplaying of the Church’s historic stance on biblical sexual morality. And it’s not happening in a vacuum.

What Scripture Actually Says

The Bible does not leave this matter to interpretation. God designed marriage from the beginning as one man and one woman:

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24

Sexual immorality—including homosexuality—is named directly throughout Scripture as sin that requires repentance (Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Leviticus 18:22). This isn’t a marginal teaching pulled from a footnote. It is the consistent witness of God’s Word from Genesis to Revelation. Yet here we see church leadership softening that message to avoid division and broaden appeal.

A Strategic Move Toward a “Global Church”

This isn’t just internal housekeeping. It looks like a calculated repositioning of the Catholic Church as a big-tent global church—more inclusive, less “judgmental,” and better able to unite people across cultures and beliefs.

That goal sounds noble on the surface. But the harder question has to be asked: what gets sacrificed to build that tent? Every time the visible Church has expanded its appeal by quieting its convictions, it has lost the very thing that set it apart in the first place—the unshakeable Word of God spoken plainly to a broken world.

This Is How End-Times Deception Unfolds

The Bible warns of a great falling away in which truth gives way to deceit (2 Thessalonians 2:3; 1 Timothy 4:1-2). Churches and leaders will itch ears, teaching what people want to hear instead of what God has said:

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” — 2 Timothy 4:3-4

The true Church is called to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16)—exposing sin, naming it as sin, and calling people to repentance through the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ. When any institution claiming Christ’s name mutes the truth about sin in order to grow its influence, it stops shining that light. And when the light dims, the darkness is free to spread.

Hold Fast

We’re watching prophecy unfold in real time. Hold fast to the full Word of God. Don’t trade biblical truth for a seat at the world’s table. The true light still shines in those who refuse to compromise—and Christ is still building His Church through them.

Stay awake. Stay in the Word. These are the days we were warned about.
