Notes – Ezekiel 1

Ezekiel 1 – The Vision of God’s Glory

“Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north…” (Ezekiel 1:4, NKJV)
“This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.” (v. 28)

🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)

  • Ezekiel receives a vision while in exile by the River Chebar in Babylon
  • storm cloud approaches with fire, lightning, and brilliant light
  • Four living creatures appear with four faces and wings, moving like flashes of lightning
  • Wheels within wheels covered with eyes — a symbolic image of divine mobility and awareness
  • Over the creatures is a firmament, a throne, and a radiant figure — the likeness of God’s glory

📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)

1. God’s Presence Is Not Bound (vv. 1–3)

Ezekiel is in exile, far from the temple in Jerusalem
Yet the heavens open, and God reveals Himself — even in judgment and displacement, God is near
“The word of the Lord came expressly…” — This is prophetic authority

2. The Living Creatures (vv. 4–14)

“Each had four faces… and four wings…”
These beings symbolize God’s creative authority (man, lion, ox, eagle)
They move in unison, directed by the Spirit — God’s messengers act with precision and purpose
Their appearance is blinding, like “burning coals of fire”

3. Wheels Within Wheels (vv. 15–21)

“Their rims were full of eyes…”
The wheels represent mobility — God is not confined to one place
The eyes represent omniscience — God sees everything
Wherever the Spirit went, the wheels and creatures followed — divine alignment

4. The Throne and the Glory (vv. 22–28)

“Above the firmament… was the likeness of a throne…”
A radiant figure sits enthroned, surrounded by brilliant colors, like a rainbow in a cloud
“This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord…”
Ezekiel falls face down — awe, reverence, and worship are the only fitting response

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)

Principle: God’s glory is overwhelming, all-seeing, and ever-present — even in our darkest seasons.

  1. Remember God is Near
Even in exile or hardship, God’s presence can break through
  2. Live in Awe of His Majesty
Let the glory of God move you to worship and obedience
  3. Trust His Sovereign Vision
The eyes on the wheels remind us — nothing escapes God’s notice
  4. Don’t Box God In
He moves beyond boundaries — be open to how He works in unexpected places
  5. Respond with Reverence
Like Ezekiel, let your posture be one of humility and submission
