Ezekiel 47 – The Healing River from the Throne of God
“And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live…” (Ezekiel 47:9, NKJV)
“The waters flow from the sanctuary… and will make the waters of the sea fresh.” (v. 8)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What Do I See?)
- Ezekiel is brought back to the temple entrance, where he sees water flowing out from under the threshold.
- The river deepens as it flows east:
- Ankle-deep
- Knee-deep
- Waist-deep
- Too deep to cross
- This water flows into the Dead Sea, making it fresh and full of life.
- Along the riverbanks, trees flourish, bearing fruit and leaves that heal.
- The chapter ends with the boundaries of the land that Israel will inherit in the Millennial Kingdom.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What Does It Mean?)
1. The River Flows from the Sanctuary (vv. 1–5)
- The river begins at the altar, a picture of God’s mercy and cleansing.
- It flows east—the direction of Christ’s return (Zechariah 14:4).
- The increasing depth shows that God’s presence grows deeper the farther it flows—a symbol of increasing spiritual vitality and blessing.
2. Life Comes Wherever the River Flows (vv. 6–12)
- The river transforms the Dead Sea—once lifeless—into a teeming ecosystem.
- Fishermen cast nets; trees bear continuous fruit; leaves bring healing.
- It’s a reversal of the curse in Genesis—a picture of the Kingdom and beyond.
3. God Restores the Land (vv. 13–23)
- The land is divided among the 12 tribes of Israel.
- Foreigners who live among the Israelites are given inheritance as well—a sign of God’s inclusive mercy.
- This reaffirms God’s covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

- Psalm 46:4 – “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God.”

- God’s Kingdom Is Full of Fruit
- The trees bear monthly fruit, and leaves never wither.
- A picture of abundance, nourishment, and continual healing.
- There’s Room for Everyone in God’s Inheritance
- Even foreigners are welcomed to share in Israel’s blessing.
- The Kingdom is for every tribe, tongue, and nation (Revelation 7:9).
