Notes – Ephesians 6

Ephesians 6 – The Armor of God and Spiritual Strength

“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10, NKJV)
“Put on the whole armor of God…” (Ephesians 6:11, NKJV)

🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)

Paul closes the letter with:

  • Instructions for children and parentsservants and masters.
  • A call to spiritual readiness in light of unseen warfare.
  • The command to put on the full armor of God.
  • A breakdown of each piece of the armor.
  • A reminder to pray always, remain alert, and encourage one another.
  • Final words and blessings to the church in Ephesus.

📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)

1. God’s Order in Relationships (vv. 1–9)

  • Children, obey and honor your parents—this is the first command with a promise.
  • Fathers, don’t provoke your children but train them in the Lord.
  • Bondservants, serve sincerely as unto Christ.
  • Masters, treat them justly, knowing God is Master of all.

God values mutual respect, honor, and accountability in all relationships.

2. Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God (vv. 10–20)

Paul reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces:

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (v. 11)

The Armor:

  • Belt of Truth – integrity holds everything together
  • Breastplate of Righteousness – right living protects your heart
  • Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – readiness to share Christ wherever you go
  • Shield of Faith – extinguishes the devil’s fiery lies and accusations
  • Helmet of Salvation – guards your thoughts with gospel assurance
  • Sword of the Spirit – the Word of God is your offensive weapon

“Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (v. 17)

Prayer:

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…” (v. 18)
Stay alert. Intercede for others. Paul even asks for boldness to preach.

3. Final Words and Blessings (vv. 21–24)

Paul ends with:

  • A blessing of peace, love, and faith.
  • A final grace for all who love Jesus Christ with sincerity.

🔁 COMPARE THIS CHAPTER WITH THE REST OF SCRIPTURE

  • Children and Parents:
    • Proverbs 1:8–9 – Don’t forsake your parents’ teaching
    • Colossians 3:20–21 – Children obey, fathers don’t discourage
  • Spiritual Warfare:
    • 2 Corinthians 10:3–5 – Our weapons are not carnal
    • 1 Peter 5:8–9 – Be sober, resist the devil
  • Armor of God:
    • Isaiah 59:17 – God wears righteousness and salvation as armor
    • Romans 13:12 – Put on the armor of light
  • Praying Always:
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing
    • James 5:16 – The prayer of the righteous is powerful

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)

Principle: Life is a battleground, not a playground. Be ready, armored, and prayerful.

  1. Honor Authority and Lead with Integrity
Whether at home or work, obey God by treating people with dignity.
  2. Get Dressed for Battle Daily
Don’t leave your spiritual armor on the shelf—put it on in prayer every morning.
  3. Stop Fighting People—Fight the Right Enemy
Your battle is not against flesh. Your spouse, boss, or friend isn’t the enemy—Satan is.
  4. Pray Like a Warrior
Be alert. Pray always. Intercede. Ask for boldness and strength.
