“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life…” (v. 12)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)

- He then warns about false teachers and the danger of greed
- Timothy is called to pursue righteousness, flee temptation, and guard what has been entrusted to him
- This chapter is a call to eternal perspective over materialism and pride
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
1. Honor in Every Role (vv. 1–2)
“Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor…”
Even in unjust systems, believers are to live with honor and humility
“So that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.”
How we live affects God’s reputation
“Those who have believing masters… should not despise them…”
Faith doesn’t erase order — it deepens mutual respect
2. Exposing False Teachers (vv. 3–5)
“If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words…”
False teachers resist sound doctrine — especially Christ’s teachings
“He is proud, knowing nothing… obsessed with disputes and arguments…”
Arrogance and endless debates are red flags
“Men of corrupt minds… who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.”
Using religion to get rich is a sign of spiritual corruption
3. The Power of Contentment (vv. 6–10)
“Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
True riches come from spiritual depth and peace
“We brought nothing into this world… we can carry nothing out.”
You can’t take it with you — so hold possessions loosely
“Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation…”
It’s the desire for wealth, not money itself, that destroys
“The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…”
Greed corrupts motives, relationships, and eternal perspective
“…and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Chasing riches often ends in regret and ruin
4. Fight the Good Fight (vv. 11–16)
“But you, O man of God, flee these things…”
Run from greed — pursue godliness instead
“Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.”
Spiritual maturity is your greatest goal
“Fight the good fight of faith…”
The Christian life is warfare, not comfort
“Lay hold on eternal life…”
Live for what really matters
“In the presence of God… and of Christ Jesus…”
God is your audience — stay faithful
“He who is the blessed and only Potentate…”
A declaration of Christ’s majesty and kingship
“Who alone has immortality… dwelling in unapproachable light…”
He is holy, eternal, and sovereign beyond comprehension
5. Warning to the Rich (vv. 17–19)
“Command those who are rich… not to be haughty…”
Wealth brings temptation toward pride and self-reliance
“Nor to trust in uncertain riches…”
Money can vanish — God is the true Provider
“Let them do good… ready to give, willing to share.”
Generosity is the proper response to blessing
“Storing up… a good foundation for the time to come…”
Eternal rewards are built by how you use your resources now
6. Guard the Truth (vv. 20–21)
“O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust…”
Hold tight to sound doctrine and spiritual truth
“Avoid profane and idle babblings…”
Don’t waste time on empty arguments
“By professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.”
False knowledge leads people away from Christ
“Grace be with you. Amen.”
A final reminder of God’s undeserved favor
