Happy Father’s Day, Dad

Dr. Paul Edward Smith, PhD

Born: August 16
Died: August 4

You left us too early at age 56. You would be 90 today. That’s 34 years without a dad. I miss you every day. You missed helping me raise my children and your three sons, my brothers.

The Bible speaks of a great crowd of witnesses that cheer us on. I like to believe you can peek through heaven’s pearly gates and the veil that separates time from eternity and see your loved ones, family, and friends below, cheering us on to run the race as to win it and to keep the faith. The world is darker than it’s ever been in our lifetime, like the days of Noah. Yet hope is stronger as lights get brighter, voices bolder, and faith stronger.

Father’s Day Reflections

Happy Father’s Day to my two sons (to become), my three brothers (Dad would be so proud), and my father-in-law (I miss you, Dad O. and Sarge).
When my dad died, you asked me, “When are you going to start living for the living instead of the dead?” It shook me back into reality that I had two little boys who needed me. It reminded me to let go of what I couldn’t control so far away in Texas. Thank you.

The Role of a Father and Husband

A father and husband is a protector, provider, priest, and proverbial guide. Our world needs good men to stand up for right, righteousness, and good. To be a light on a hill for the family. To lead with love that serves and sacrifices all.

May God bless our fathers, single mothers, children without fathers, the fatherless, orphans, widows, and the poor among us. Oh, to have a father, a covering of protection and provision and legacy.

God is good all the time and is our help in times of need. Some things happen that we will never understand this side of Heaven. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for loving us and giving us another day to serve and worship you.

Today’s Gift

Today’s a gift from above. How shall I spend it, this greatest commodity called time? Until you manage time, you cannot manage anything at all. Sacrifice is the greatest act of love. Love looks like something.
