Jonah

Episode 1: “The Call to Nineveh”

I am Jonah, a prophet of God. One day, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” I was reluctant and afraid, so I decided to flee from God’s presence.

Episode 2: “Running Away”

Instead of going to Nineveh, I boarded a ship bound for Tarshish, hoping to escape God’s call. But the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. The sailors were terrified and began to cry out to their gods.

Episode 3: “The Storm and the Sailors”

The sailors cast lots to find out who was responsible for the calamity, and the lot fell on me. I confessed that I was fleeing from the Lord and that the storm was because of me. I told them to throw me into the sea to calm the storm.

Episode 4: “Swallowed by a Great Fish”

As I was thrown overboard, the raging sea grew calm. But I was not left to drown; the Lord provided a great fish to swallow me. For three days and three nights, I was in the belly of the fish, praying to the Lord for deliverance.

Episode 5: “Jonah’s Prayer”

From the belly of the fish, I cried out to the Lord in my distress. I acknowledged my wrongdoing and asked for His mercy. The Lord heard my prayer, and the fish vomited me onto dry land, giving me a second chance to fulfill my mission.

Episode 6: “Preaching in Nineveh”

This time, I obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh. I proclaimed that in forty days, Nineveh would be overturned because of its wickedness. The people of Nineveh believed God, declared a fast, and put on sackcloth, showing their repentance.

Episode 7: “Nineveh’s Repentance”

When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, He relented and did not bring the destruction He had threatened. This mercy angered me because I wanted to see Nineveh punished for its wickedness.

Episode 8: “Jonah’s Anger”

I went out of the city and sat down at a place east of it. I made myself a shelter and waited to see what would happen to the city. The Lord provided a leafy plant to give me shade, but the next day, He sent a worm to chew the plant so that it withered.

Episode 9: “A Lesson in Compassion”

As the sun rose, God sent a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on my head so that I grew faint. I was angry about the plant and wished to die. But the Lord said, “You are concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. Should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh?”

Episode 10: “Understanding God’s Mercy”

Through my experience, I learned about God’s immense compassion and mercy. The story of Nineveh’s repentance and God’s forgiveness remains a powerful testament to His love and patience with us, even when we are reluctant to follow His will.
