1 Corinthians 1 – Christ the Wisdom of God

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18, NKJV)
“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.” (v. 30)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)
- Paul opens by addressing the divisions within the Corinthian church
- He emphasizes unity, not following favorite teachers or personalities
- The gospel message is foolish to the world but powerful to believers
- God uses the weak and foolish to shame the strong and wise
- True boasting is not in men or intellect, but in the Lord alone
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
1. A Church Called and Enriched (vv. 1–9)
“To the church of God which is at Corinth…”
Paul reminds them they are sanctified, called to be saints together
“You were enriched in everything… in all utterance and knowledge”
God has gifted them for a purpose — and He will sustain them until Christ returns
2. Let There Be No Divisions (vv. 10–17)
“That you all speak the same thing… no divisions among you…”
Paul appeals for unity — not loyalty to Paul, Apollos, Cephas, or even Christ in a tribal way
“Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?”
The gospel is not about personalities, but the person of Jesus
“Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel…”
3. The Message of the Cross (vv. 18–25)
“The message of the cross is foolishness… but to us… it is the power of God”
God’s wisdom offends the proud but saves the humble
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise…” (Isaiah quote)
Human wisdom cannot lead to salvation — only God’s foolish-looking plan (the cross)
4. God’s Upside-Down Kingdom (vv. 26–31)
“Not many wise… not many mighty… are called”
God often chooses the overlooked and undeserving
“That no flesh should glory in His presence”
All glory belongs to God
“Let him who glories, glory in the Lord.” (Jeremiah 9:24 echo)

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)
Principle: Unity, humility, and the power of the cross must define our lives—not pride, performance, or personalities.
- Pursue Unity, Not Sides
Don’t divide over leaders, denominations, or preferences — cling to Christ - Embrace the “Foolish” Gospel
The world may mock it, but the cross is your power and peace - Reject Boasting in Self
Your wisdom, strength, and status mean nothing apart from Jesus - Glory in the Lord
Let your life point to Him — not to your own achievements or opinions
