Genesis 6 – Corruption, Nephilim, and the Call to Build
“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth… But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:5, 8, NKJV)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What Do I See?)
- Human population grows—and with it, sin multiplies.
- The mysterious “sons of God” take wives from among humans.
- Nephilim appear—giant or violent beings tied to this union.
- God’s heart is grieved, not angry alone—He is broken over the state of man.
- God announces the coming judgment by flood.
- Noah stands out in a dark generation: righteous, blameless, and he walked with God.
- God instructs Noah to build an ark—a vessel of salvation in a world of coming wrath.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What Does It Mean?)
1. Demonic Corruption of Mankind (vv. 1–4)
- “Sons of God” = likely fallen angels (see Job 1:6; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6).
- Their union with human women leads to unnatural offspring—Nephilim, violent giants.
- This was satanic interference aimed at corrupting the human line—trying to stop the promised Seed (Genesis 3:15).
2. God’s Grief and Limit (vv. 5–7)
- Every thought of man was “only evil continually”—total depravity.
- God is not only holy—He is heartbroken: “It grieved Him to His heart.”
- God sets a limit: 120 years until judgment falls.
3. Noah: A Light in the Darkness (vv. 8–10)
- “But Noah found grace…” – One man standing against the current.
- Noah didn’t earn grace—he received it, then walked faithfully.
- His life reflects obedience, integrity, and communion with God.
4. The Earth Was Filled With Violence (vv. 11–13)
- Sin is not just private—it spreads to all society.
- Earth is “corrupt” and “filled with violence”—a mirror of today’s headlines.
- God is not silent—He reveals judgment before He sends it.
5. God’s Blueprint for Salvation (vv. 14–22)
- God gives Noah detailed instructions: build the ark, prepare for a flood.
- The ark had one door—symbolic of Jesus, the only way (John 10:9).
- Noah obeys completely—a man of radical trust in a coming storm no one else believed in.
🔄 COMPARE WITH THE REST OF SCRIPTURE

- Jude 6 – “Angels who left their proper domain…”
- God’s Patience and Judgment:
- 2 Peter 3:9 – God is “not willing that any should perish…”
- Matthew 24:37 – The days of Noah will be like the days before Christ returns.

- Hebrews 11:7 – “By faith Noah… moved with godly fear… prepared an ark…”
- Ezekiel 14:14 – Noah is listed as one of three righteous men (alongside Daniel and Job).
- The Ark as Christ:
- John 14:6 – Jesus is the only way to salvation.
- 1 Peter 3:20–21 – The ark is a symbol of baptism—a passage from death to life.
🛠 EXECUTE – How Does This Affect My Life?
Key Principle: God’s judgment is real, but so is His mercy. When sin abounds, grace still abounds more—for those who walk with Him in obedience.
- Don’t Follow the Crowd
- The whole world was corrupt, but Noah stood alone.
- Be the one who walks with God even when no one else does.
- Be Alert to Spiritual Warfare
- Just as the enemy tried to corrupt the bloodline, he still tries to distort truth today.
- Guard your family, heart, and mind.
- Let God’s Grief Lead You to Repentance
- Sin breaks God’s heart. It should break ours, too.
- Let grief over sin produce real change.
- Obey Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense
- Noah had never seen rain, yet he built an ark.
- Faith obeys before results appear.
- Enter the Ark—Enter Christ
- The ark had one door. There is one way to escape judgment.
- Run to Christ—the safe place from coming wrath.
