🔹 1. Futurist View (Amir Tsarfati, Pre-Trib Dispensational)
This is the view held by Amir and many conservative evangelicals.
- 144,000 = Literal Jews (12,000 from each tribe) sealed for protection during the future 7-year tribulation.
- They serve as evangelists, helping lead a massive revival during this period.
- The great multitude in vv. 9–17 are tribulation martyrs, not the Church. These are mostly Gentiles who come to faith and are killed for their testimony.
- Emphasizes God’s continued plan for Israel (see Romans 11).
- Supports a pre-tribulation rapture and a literal reading of Revelation’s sequence.
📖 Key passages: Revelation 14:1–5, Romans 11:25–27, Matthew 24:14, Revelation 6:9–11, Zechariah 12:10
🔹 2. Preterist View
This view sees Revelation as describing events that already happened, especially around 70 AD.
- 144,000 = Symbolic for Jewish believers who accepted Christ before the fall of Jerusalem.
- Great multitude = Gentile Christians from across the Roman Empire.
- Revelation 7 reflects God’s preservation of His faithful during the judgment of apostate Israel.
- The book is understood as historical prophecy, not future.
📖 Key passages: Matthew 24:34, Hebrews 12:22–24, Revelation 1:1 (“things which must shortly take place”)
🔹 3. Amillennial View
Amillennialism interprets Revelation symbolically, not chronologically.
- 144,000 = Symbolic representation of the complete people of God, both Jew and Gentile.
- Great multitude = The entire Church across all generations — those redeemed by Christ.
- There is no literal 1,000-year reign, and no future tribulation as described by futurists.
- Sees no distinction between Israel and the Church — both are united as God’s people.
📖 Key passages: Galatians 3:28–29, Romans 2:28–29, Revelation 5:9–10
🔹 4. Historicist View
Popular among early Protestant Reformers like Martin Luther and John Knox.
- Revelation is a prophetic timeline of Church history from the 1st century to the present.
- 144,000 = A faithful remnant of believers during specific eras, such as the Reformation.
- Great multitude = All faithful Christians throughout history.
- Tends to link the Antichrist with the papacy and sees Revelation as unfolding throughout church history.
📖 Key ideas: Many Reformers linked Revelation’s symbols to events like the fall of Rome, the rise of Islam, or the Reformation.
🔹 5. Postmillennial View
This view is optimistic about the future of the gospel and the Church.
- 144,000 = Faithful believers participating in the spread of the gospel.
- Great multitude = Fruit of the Church’s global mission — nations coming to Christ over time.
- Teaches that the world will become increasingly Christianized before Christ returns.
- Sees Revelation 7 as symbolic of gospel victory, not future judgment.
📖 Key passages: Psalm 22:27, Habakkuk 2:14, Matthew 28:18–20
