Zechariah 2 – Jerusalem Without Walls and the Apple of His Eye
“For I,” says the Lord, “will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.” (Zechariah 2:5, NKJV)
“He who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” (v. 8)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What Do I See?)
- Zechariah sees a man measuring Jerusalem—planning its future size and boundaries.
- God interrupts the vision: No walls will be needed—He Himself will be her protection.
- The Lord promises to:
- Return to Zion
- Dwell among His people
- Draw many nations to Himself
- God calls His people still in exile to flee Babylon and return to the Holy Land.
- The chapter ends with a call to silence before the Lord, who is about to act.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What Does It Mean?)
1. Measuring a Future Without Limits (vv. 1–2)
- The man with a measuring line symbolizes a future restoration and expansion of Jerusalem.
- It’s not just about rebuilding—it’s about preparing for abundance and population growth.
2. God Will Be the Wall (vv. 3–5)
- An angel stops the man: “No need to measure—God will be her protection.”
- “A wall of fire” = supernatural protection.
- “The glory in her midst” = His presence will dwell there again.
3. Come Out of Babylon! (vv. 6–7)
- God calls His people to leave exile and return to Jerusalem.
- Babylon represents worldly systems—He urges separation from corruption.
4. God Protects What Is Precious (vv. 8–9)
- “He who touches you touches the apple of His eye” = deep affection and divine vengeance.
- God will judge the nations who harmed Israel.
5. Many Nations Will Join the Lord (vv. 10–13)
- God promises to dwell in the midst of His people again.
- Nations will be grafted in and become His people too—pointing to the Gentile church and the future Messianic reign.
- Silence is called for because God is moving from His holy dwelling—it’s a moment of awe.

- Exodus 13:21 – Pillar of fire protected Israel.
- Psalm 125:2 – “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people.”

- Isaiah 2:2–3 – Nations flow to the house of the Lord.

- God Is Your Defender
- You don’t need to build walls when God surrounds you with fire.
- His protection is personal, supernatural, and complete.
- You Are Deeply Loved
- You are the apple of His eye—He guards you with fierce love.
- Don’t believe the lie that you’ve been forgotten.
- God Is Building Without Limits
- The vision of a wall-less city means His plans for you are bigger than your boundaries.
- Don’t limit what God can do—He sees more than you do.
- Separate from Babylon
- Come out of compromise, confusion, and comfort.
- God is calling you to leave behind Babylon and return to Him fully.
- Nations Are Welcome
- The invitation to God’s presence is not just for Israel—it’s for all nations who believe.
- Your place in the Kingdom is secure when your faith is in Him.
