Ezekiel 22 – The Sins of the City and the Search for a Savior
“I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me… but I found no one.” (Ezekiel 22:30, NKJV)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What Do I See?)
God speaks directly against Jerusalem, calling it:
- A “bloody city” (v. 2) filled with violence, corruption, idolatry, and bloodshed.
- A place where every class of society is guilty—princes, priests, prophets, and people.
God lays out the charges in three parts:
- Bloodshed and Idolatry (vv. 1–16):
Murders, extortion, injustice, Sabbath-breaking, and sexual sin. - Refining Fire of Judgment (vv. 17–22):
The people are like dross—waste metal. God says He will gather and melt them in His furnace. - A Failed Society Without a Righteous Defender (vv. 23–31):
Corruption infects everyone. And in the end—no one stands in the gap to intercede for the land.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What Does It Mean?)
- Sin Destroys Every Level of Society (vv. 1–16, 23–29)
- The leaders shed blood, the priests profane God’s law, and the prophets lie.
- The people oppress the poor, take bribes, commit adultery, and practice extortion.
- This is a systemic collapse rooted in rejection of God’s truth.
- God’s Judgment Will Purge Like Fire (vv. 17–22)
- The people have become dross—impure and unusable.
- God will melt them with the fire of His wrath—not to destroy, but to refine.
- His judgment is not random—it’s just, targeted, and refining.
- God Sought a Righteous Intercessor—but Found None (v. 30)
- One of the saddest verses in Scripture.
- God looked for someone to intercede, stand in the breach, and build a wall of protection.
- But no one was righteous, willing, or courageous enough to answer the call.

- Ultimate Intercessor:
- Hebrews 7:25 – Jesus always lives to intercede for us.
- 1 Timothy 2:5 – “There is one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”

Key Principle: God calls us to stand in the gap for a broken world. When no one does, judgment is the only option—but Jesus has become that Intercessor on our behalf.
- Sin Affects Everyone—Not Just the “Bad Ones”
- Ezekiel 22 lists princes, priests, prophets, and people—no one is innocent.
- Ask: Where is sin hiding in my own camp, my family, or my community?
- Judgment May Be God’s Mercy in Disguise
- The fire wasn’t just destruction—it was to burn off dross.
- Let God refine you now in repentance rather than later in wrath.

- Prayer, repentance, truth-telling, and advocacy matter.
- God is still looking for men and women who intercede, not stand aside.
- Jesus Stood in the Gap for You
- Where Ezekiel found no man—God sent His Son.
