Revelation 9 – The Fifth and Sixth Trumpets: Hell Unleashed
“But the rest of mankind… did not repent.” (Revelation 9:20)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)
The judgments intensify. With the fifth and sixth trumpets, we now enter what the Bible calls the first and second “woes”—supernatural, demonic plagues that strike terror and torment into the hearts of mankind.
- Fifth Trumpet (vv. 1–12):
- A star falls from heaven—likely an angelic being, not a literal star.
- He is given the key to the bottomless pit (Abyss).
- The pit is opened, and demonic locusts swarm out, darkening the air.
- These aren’t insects—they have crowns, human-like faces, lion’s teeth, and tails like scorpions.
- Their mission: torment, not kill, those who don’t have the seal of God.
- Their leader is Abaddon/Apollyon, meaning “Destroyer.”
- Sixth Trumpet (vv. 13–21):
- A voice from the golden altar commands the release of four bound angels at the Euphrates River.
- These fallen angels lead a terrifying army of 200 million, described with breastplates of fire and smoke and heads like lions.
- This judgment kills one-third of mankind—a staggering death toll.
- Despite all this, the survivors still do not repent.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
- The Abyss is Real
This is not symbolism. Amir teaches that the bottomless pit is a literal, spiritual prison for demonic entities. When it’s opened, literal, locust-like demons are released with power to torment. - Supernatural Judgment
These aren’t natural disasters—this is spiritual warfare, released and limited by God’s authority. The demons cannot harm God’s people (those sealed) and have a set duration of five months. - The Sixth Trumpet’s Army
While some believe this is a human army (e.g., China), the description is supernatural—not bound by the laws of nature. The focus is on their terror and destruction. - Mankind’s Hard Heart
The most sobering part is not the demons—it’s the refusal to repent. Even as the world burns, people cling to their idolatry, murder, and sexual immorality. - God’s Restraint
Even here, judgment is limited. The fifth trumpet torments but does not kill. The sixth kills one-third—but still leaves room for repentance.

- The Abyss:
- Luke 8:31 – Demons begged Jesus not to send them to the Abyss.
- Jude 6 – Angels who left their proper domain are kept in chains.
- Revelation 20:1–3 – Satan himself will be bound in this pit during the Millennium.
- Demonic Locusts:
- Joel 2 – Locust army connected to the Day of the Lord.
- Exodus 10 – God used locusts as one of the plagues in Egypt.
- Hardness of Heart:
- Romans 1:21–25 – When people reject God, He gives them over to depravity.
- Exodus 9 – Pharaoh hardened his heart even after many plagues.
🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)
Principle: God’s judgment is both righteous and merciful, but time is running out.
- Take Spiritual Warfare Seriously
The demonic realm is real. But praise God—we who are in Christ are sealed and protected. Live in spiritual readiness. - Be a Witness Now
When judgment comes, hearts may still not turn. That’s why we must preach the Gospel now, while hearts are soft and the Church is still present. - Pray for the Lost
Pray for those who still resist God. If people won’t repent during supernatural judgments, imagine how hard their hearts already are today.
