Notes – Galatians 1

Galatians 1 – No Other Gospel

“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you… to a different gospel.” (Galatians 1:6, NKJV)
“If anyone preaches any other gospel… let him be accursed.” (v. 9)

🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)

  • Paul opens with urgency and apostolic authority
  • He expresses shock that the Galatians are being led astray
  • A warning: there is only one true gospel
  • Paul defends his calling — not from men, but directly from Jesus Christ
  • His testimony: once a persecutor, now a preacher by God’s grace

📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)

1. No Other Gospel (vv. 1–10)

“Even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel… let him be accursed.”
Paul warns against adding anything to the gospel of grace
He reminds them: salvation is by grace through faith, not works or law
“Do I now persuade men, or God? … I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”

2. Paul’s Gospel Is from Christ (vv. 11–12)

“I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it…”
Paul makes it clear — his message didn’t come from human tradition
It came by revelation from Jesus Christ Himself

3. Paul’s Past and Calling (vv. 13–17)

“I persecuted the church of God beyond measure…”
He was zealous for Jewish traditions — until God called him by grace
“To reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles…”

4. Confirmation, Not Instruction (vv. 18–24)

Paul didn’t need to be validated by the apostles
He spent time with Peter and James but was not taught by them

“They glorified God in me.”
His transformation was undeniable — and glory went to God

🔁 COMPARE THIS CHAPTER WITH THE REST OF SCRIPTURE

  • Only One Gospel:
    • John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life…”
    • Acts 4:12 – No other name by which we must be saved
  • Paul’s Conversion:
    • Acts 9 – Saul’s dramatic encounter with Christ
    • 1 Timothy 1:13–16 – “I was shown mercy…”
  • Grace Over Religion:
    • Ephesians 2:8–9 – By grace you have been saved, not works
    • Romans 11:6 – If by grace, then it is no longer by works

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)

Principle: The gospel of grace stands alone — and it cannot be mixed with man’s religion.

  1. Guard the Gospel
Be discerning — not everything “Christian” is gospel truth
  2. Live Boldly for Christ
Don’t fear man — Paul chose God’s approval over popularity
  3. Tell Your Story
Like Paul, your testimony is a powerful witness to God’s grace
  4. Stay Rooted in Grace
Resist the drift into legalism or performance — it’s grace from start to finish
