Ephesians 1 – Our Identity in Christ
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing…” (Ephesians 1:3, NKJV)
“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance…” (Ephesians 1:11, NKJV)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)
Paul opens this letter with one of the most powerful affirmations of who we are in Christ:
- A greeting of grace and peace to the saints in Ephesus.
- A majestic list of spiritual blessings given to believers through Christ.
- A declaration that we were chosen, adopted, redeemed, and sealed.
- A powerful prayer that believers would receive wisdom, revelation, and understanding of God’s power and purpose.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
- You Are Spiritually Blessed (vv. 3–6)
In Christ, you have already received every spiritual blessing. You were chosen before the foundation of the world, adopted into God’s family, and accepted in the Beloved. - You Are Redeemed and Forgiven (vv. 7–10)
Through Christ’s blood, you are redeemed—bought back—and your sins are forgiven. This was part of God’s plan to unite all things in Christ. - You Have an Eternal Inheritance (vv. 11–14)
You’ve been predestined according to God’s will and given an eternal inheritance. The Holy Spirit seals you—He is the guarantee of what’s to come. - Paul’s Prayer for Revelation (vv. 15–23)
Paul prays for the Ephesians to know:- The hope of their calling
- The riches of their inheritance
- The greatness of God’s power toward believers
This same power raised Christ from the dead and seated Him above all authority.

- Spiritual Blessings:
- 2 Peter 1:3 – He has given us all things for life and godliness
- John 1:16 – From His fullness we have received grace upon grace
- Chosen and Adopted:
- Romans 8:15 – You received the Spirit of adoption
- John 15:16 – “You did not choose Me, but I chose you”
- Sealed with the Holy Spirit:
- 2 Corinthians 1:22 – God gave us the Spirit as a guarantee
- Romans 8:16 – The Spirit testifies we are children of God
- Resurrection Power:
- Philippians 3:10 – The power of His resurrection
- Colossians 2:12 – You were raised with Him through faith

Principle: Your identity isn’t earned—it’s received. You are chosen, redeemed, and sealed in Christ. Your life has eternal purpose and power.
- Start Your Day With Truth, Not Feelings
Don’t wait for motivation. Start with the truth:“I am blessed. I am chosen. I am sealed.” - Pray for Spiritual Sight
Ask God to open your eyes like Paul prayed—so you grasp the hope, riches, and power of the gospel. - Rest in the Finished Work of Christ
You are not trying to earn God’s love or favor. You already have it.Let grace lead your walk. - Remember Who’s in Charge
Jesus is far above all rule and power. That includes every fear, trial, and spiritual enemy.
