Acts 24 – The Gospel on Trial: Conviction, Compromise, and Courage
“He reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come. Felix was afraid…” (Acts 24:25)
🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What do I see?)
Paul has been transported to Caesarea under Roman protection. His Jewish accusers follow him there, presenting their case before Governor Felix. Paul confidently defends himself, not only refuting false accusations but boldly presenting the Gospel. Felix is deeply convicted but delays responding—and ends up leaving Paul in prison to please the Jews and hoping for a bribe.
- The high priest Ananias and lawyer Tertullus arrive to formally accuse Paul.
- Tertullus uses flattery, calling Paul a “plague” and accusing him of stirring up riots and desecrating the temple.
- Paul gives his defense with respect and clarity. He admits worshiping God differently but denies any riot or temple violation.
- He emphasizes the resurrection of the dead as the reason for his hope and opposition.
- Paul says he came to Jerusalem to bring alms and offerings to his people, not to stir up rebellion.
- Felix adjourns the trial, delaying judgment.
- Later, Felix and his Jewish wife Drusilla summon Paul and hear him speak about faith in Christ.
- Paul boldly preaches about righteousness, self-control, and coming judgment.
- Felix becomes terrified but says, “Go away for now. When I have a convenient time, I will call for you.”
- Over two years, Felix often calls Paul—hoping for a bribe—but never acts.
- Eventually, Felix is replaced by Porcius Festus and leaves Paul imprisoned to gain favor with the Jews.
📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
- The World Will Always Twist the Truth (vv. 1–9)
Tertullus uses manipulation and flattery to frame Paul as dangerous. Expect distorted narratives when you live boldly for Christ. - Godly People Can Speak Boldly and Respectfully (vv. 10–21)
Paul doesn’t lash out or beg for freedom. He calmly presents the facts and testifies to eternal truths, staying focused on Christ. - The Resurrection Divides Religions (v. 15, 21)
Paul zeroes in on the resurrection—a truth that separated him from the Sadducees and still divides the world today. This is the core of our hope. - Conviction Without Repentance Is Dangerous (vv. 24–25)
Felix was moved emotionally, but not transformed spiritually. The message made him tremble, but he chose delay over decision. - People Will Trade Eternity for Earthly Gain (vv. 26–27)
Felix hoped for a bribe and played politics instead of surrendering to Christ. Many delay salvation for money, influence, or convenience.

🙌 EXECUTE (So what? How does this affect my life?)
Principle: The Gospel will confront both sin and power. But not everyone who hears will repent. Your job is to speak truth boldly—God handles the results.
- Be Prepared to Defend Your Faith With Grace and Truth
Like Paul, be ready to give a reason for the hope in you—even when falsely accused or misunderstood. - Don’t Wait for a “Convenient Time” to Obey God
Felix delayed—and missed his chance. When the Holy Spirit convicts, respond immediately. - Speak the Full Truth—Even the Uncomfortable Parts
Paul didn’t sugarcoat his message. He spoke of righteousness, self-control, and judgment. The Gospel must be clear, not just comforting. - Don’t Be Discouraged by Delay or Corruption
Paul spent two years in prison without justice. But he remained faithful. God’s delays are not denials. - Live for Eternity, Not Earthly Favor
Don’t trade your integrity, calling, or faith for temporary gain. God will reward what man ignores.
