In our journey of faith, we are often faced with choices that test our commitment to God. Today’s world offers many enticing paths that promise wisdom, healing, or insight—but we must be careful about where these paths lead. God’s Word warns us lovingly and firmly against practices that draw our hearts away from Him: sorcery, divination, consulting spirits, and seeking knowledge outside of His will. These are temptations that may seem harmless or even comforting, but they can slowly trap us in a web of deception and spiritual harm.
In Deuteronomy 18:10-12, God tells His people not to turn to such practices, saying, “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells… anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.” These verses reveal God’s deep desire for us to seek Him alone, relying on His strength and His Word for wisdom and comfort.
