Continuing the Journey with God

Brothers,

As we walk with the Lord daily, we experience learning, growth, and a closer relationship with Him. Staying committed to our spiritual practices is essential, grounding our efforts in God’s Word and faith principles. Let’s explore how maintaining gratitude, prayer, meditation, and connection with our families and communities strengthens our spiritual journey.

Step 10: Continue Practicing ReGen Steps 1-9

The Christian journey requires perseverance and dedication. In Revelation 2:19, Jesus praises the church in Thyatira for their love, faith, service, and patient endurance, noting that their later works surpass their earlier ones. Similarly, we are called to continually grow in our faith, ensuring our later actions exceed our earlier ones through consistent practice and devotion.

Step 10 helps us to practice Steps 1-9 over two weeks. Each step is a important part of our spiritual toolkit:

  1. Admit: Recognize our powerlessness over our addictions and sinful patterns—that our lives have become unmanageable. (Romans 7:18)
  2. Believe: Come to believe that God can restore us to sanity and wholeness through Jesus Christ. (Psalm 103:2-5)
  3. Trust: Decide to turn our lives and wills over to God’s care. (Ephesians 2:4-5)
  4. Inventory: Conduct a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. (Psalm 51:6)
  5. Confess: Admit to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. (1 John 1:7-9)
  6. Repent: Become entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. (2 Timothy 2:22)
  7. Follow: Humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings. (Galatians 5:22-25)
  8. Forgive: Make a list of all persons we have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all. (Ephesians 4:32-5:1)
  9. Amend: Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. (Romans 12:17-18)

Making these steps part of our spiritual toolkit equips us to handle life’s challenges more effectively. Each step addresses a specific aspect of our spiritual health, allowing us to make quick fixes and course corrections as we walk in the Spirit. Step 10 prepares us for a deeper, more intimate relationship with God in Step 11.

Continue to Maintain Your Gratitude List Every Day

As David challenged us, we should daily update and reflect on our Gratitude list. Gratitude transforms how we see the world and our place in it. Colossians 3:15-17 urges us, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful…And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Keeping a daily gratitude list is a practical way to cultivate a heart of thankfulness, recognizing God’s hand in every aspect of our lives.

This photograph is commonly known as “Grace” and was taken by Eric Enstrom in 1918. It captures an elderly man, Charles Wilden, in a moment of prayer before a simple meal. The scene conveys deep humility and gratitude.

Continue to Pray for Each Other and Those We Love

Michael reminded us to pray for those we know personally who need God. Additionally, we are to pray for each other, as James 5:16 reminds us, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” Prayer is the lifeline that connects us to God and each other, a powerful tool in supporting, healing, and uplifting the body of Christ.

Continue to Slow Down and Meditate in God’s Word

Jason prayed Psalm 23 over us and we reflected on each word. He challenged us to slow down and be still. In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s essential to slow down and savor God’s Word. Psalm 1:2-3 describes the blessed person as one “whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Meditating in Scripture allows us to absorb its truths, guiding our thoughts, actions, and decisions.

Continue to Stay Present in Your Families’ Lives and in Your Community

I encourage you to unplug and be present with your family and community of brothers. Spending quality time together—playing, laughing, talking, praying, and reading the Bible—is important. We should also stay connected and support each other. The group of brothers in ReGen #57 were put together by God’s sovereign providence. We are here because God brought us together! God calls us to love and serve those around us, reflecting His love through our actions. Galatians 5:13-14 says, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Being present and engaged with our families and communities gives us chances to serve and show the love of Christ.

Reflection and Prayer

As we reflect on these principles, let us ask the Lord to help us continue steadfast in our journey with Him. May we be reminded of the importance of daily practices that draw us closer to God and to each other. Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, grant us the strength and perseverance to continue walking faithfully with You. Help us to maintain a spirit of gratitude, to pray fervently for one another, to deeply engage with Your Word, and to serve our families and communities with the love of Christ. May our lives reflect Your glory and grace every day. Amen.

Personal Reflection

Which of these areas do you feel called to focus on more deeply? Consider setting aside time this week to ask God how you might grow in that area, and take one practical step toward that growth.

May God bless you as you continue your journey with Him.
