Chapter 1

I remember two a day football practice for Garland Christian Academy. We would start at 6AM wrap up at 10AM and come back at 7PM and wrap at 9PM. We practiced hard and consistently to prepare for the season of football. It wasn’t easy, but we were rewarded for our commitment by being conditioned and able to function as a unit/team. Similarly, Chapter 1 of “Disciplines of a Godly Man” by R. Kent Hughes focuses on the importance of discipline in the life of a Christian man. He emphasized that godliness requires a commitment to spiritual disciplines, similar to how athletes train rigorously to excel. He argued that discipline in areas such as prayer, integrity, marriage, and purity are essential for spiritual growth and effective Christian living. The chapter encourages men to pursue discipline not out of legalism, but out of a desire to honor God and live a life that reflects Christ. Not out of pride, but from a spirit of humility! Trust God and obey Him and leave the results to Him!!!
