📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What does it mean?)
1. Paul’s Jealousy for the Church (vv. 1–4)
“I am jealous for you with godly jealousy…”
Paul’s love for the church is driven by a desire for their purity and faithfulness to Christ
“For if he who comes preaches another Jesus… you may well put up with it.”
The danger of false teachings is that they often seem close to the truth but lead people away from the true gospel
2. Paul’s Authenticity vs. False Apostles (vv. 5–15)
“For I consider that I am not at all inferior to the most eminent apostles.”
Paul defends his apostleship against critics, affirming that he is not lacking in spiritual authority
“But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity…”
Paul is determined to maintain integrity in his ministry and not give an inch to false apostles
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers…”
False teachers disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness, but they distort the gospel for personal gain
3. Paul’s Sufferings for Christ (vv. 16–33)
“Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I…”
Paul lists his credentials to prove his identity as a true apostle
“In labors more abundant, in stripes above measure…”
He recounts his suffering for the gospel — enduring beatings, imprisonments, shipwrecks, and more
“If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.”
Paul boasts in weakness, not strength, as a testimony to God’s sufficiency in his life
“Besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.”
His greatest burden is his care for the churches, and his heart for their spiritual growth
