I remember Cindy’s mom, Imogene, who had a deep and abiding faith in Christ. As Alzheimer’s disease took its toll, she lost track of many things, even the faces and names of her loved ones. Yet, there was one thing she never forgot: the words to “Amazing Grace.” She would sing that beloved hymn even when her memory failed her in every other way. She might not have remembered who she was or where she was, but she never lost the truth of God’s grace. That same grace, which sustained her through the trials of life, was what welcomed her into heaven when she passed away.

I also think about my dad, Dr. Paul Edward Smith. Like all of us, he made mistakes and sinned. At times, the weight of his guilt was overwhelming. But the beauty of God’s grace is that it is greater than our failures. Dad didn’t have to carry the burden of his past.
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
—Romans 8:1 (ESV)
Because of that grace, my dad could rest assured that despite his mistakes, his salvation was secure in Christ, just as Imagene’s was. Romans 8 goes on to remind us:
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
—Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
This grace is available to all of us. God’s grace isn’t something we earn; it’s a gift we receive by faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
—Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
Grace is what saved us, and grace is what sustains us. When we place our faith in Jesus, we are trusting that His sacrifice on the cross was enough. That’s why grace is so amazing—it’s not something we earn or lose; it’s freely given because of what Christ did for us. It’s by that grace we can live with confidence, knowing we are forever secure in His love.

Practical Next Step:
1. Reflect on God’s Grace: Take five minutes today to reflect on how God’s grace has worked in your life. Consider the moments when you have experienced His mercy and forgiveness.
2. Memorize Romans 8:1: Commit this verse to memory as a reminder that you are not condemned in Christ Jesus, no matter what mistakes you’ve made.
3. Journal Your Journey: Write down how trusting God’s grace has transformed your life. Reflect on the freedom that comes from knowing you are secure in His love.
4. Take a Step of Faith: If there’s an area in your life where you need to trust God more, surrender it to Him in prayer today. Rest in the assurance that His grace is enough.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your amazing grace. I am humbled by Your love and the fact that, despite my failures and mistakes, You cover me with Your mercy. Help me to trust You completely. I know that You are faithful, and Your grace is enough. Let me walk in the confidence of my salvation, knowing that nothing can separate me from Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
May we trust in God’s amazing grace today, knowing that no matter where we are in life, His love holds us securely. As we grow in faith, let’s rest in the truth that His grace will sustain us through every trial.
