Psalm 23

🔥 The Voice That Found Me

A Shepherd’s Journey Through Psalm 23, John 10 & Luke 15

I Got Lost at the Fair.

It was a hot Texas afternoon. The air smelled like funnel cakes and dust. I was seven years old, wide-eyed, holding my dad’s hand as we weaved through crowds of people, flashing lights, and the roar of carnival rides.

Then — just for a moment — I let go.

I turned to point at something, and when I looked back… he was gone.

The crowd closed in. My heart pounded. Nothing looked familiar. I called out, but no one answered. I was surrounded by strangers and noise, and I felt frozen in fear.

And then I heard it.

“Eddie! Over here!”

It was my father’s voice — strong, unmistakable, and filled with love.
The moment I heard it, I knew I was safe.
I ran toward the sound — toward the only voice that mattered.

That moment never left me.

Because years later, when life got noisy again — when I felt lost in fear, shame, or failure — I heard another voice calling my name.

“The sheep hear His voice; and He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.”
— John 10:3 (NKJV)

Jesus — the Good Shepherd — speaks just like that:
Not with condemnation, but with recognition.
He doesn’t wait for us to find Him.
He comes looking. He calls. And if we’re listening — we run toward Him.

🐑 The Christian Life: A Walk Through Psalm 23

1. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

It starts here: not religion, but relationship.
Not “a” shepherd. My Shepherd.

When Jesus said:

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
He wasn’t offering an idea — He was declaring a rescue mission.

2. “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.”

Before He sends you out, He calls you to rest.

“He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.” (John 10:3)
Still waters don’t mean no trouble.
They mean peace in His presence.

3. “He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

We don’t just need direction — we need restoration.
He doesn’t shame us into change. He restores, then leads.

“Does he not leave the ninety-nine… and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?”
— Luke 15:4

You are the one. And He’s the Shepherd who never stops pursuing.

4. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…”

The valley is real. But so is His presence.

“For You are with me.”

Fear loses its grip when the Shepherd is near.

“…Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

His rod protects. His staff corrects.
But neither is meant to push you away — they pull you closer.

“And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.” (Luke 15:5)

He doesn’t lecture you back to safety — He carries you.

5. “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…”

Even when life is still hostile, He blesses you openly.
Victory is not the absence of enemies — it’s the presence of the Shepherd.

“…You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.”

Anointing is healing. Calling. Covering.

Overflow doesn’t come from circumstance — it comes from closeness with Him.

6. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”

The word “follow” means pursue.
God’s mercy chases you down — even when you’re walking away.

“…And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

This is where the journey ends: home.
Not in performance. Not in perfection.
But in His presence — forever.

🎯 The Final Question: Whose Voice Will You Follow?

Life is loud.

Fear shouts. Shame whispers. The world never stops talking. But the Shepherd? He’s still calling — and He’s calling you.

He doesn’t demand perfection. He invites you home.

  • Are you chasing peace in all the wrong places?
  • Are you still trying to fix what only He can restore?
  • Are you lost in the noise — or are you listening for the voice that knows your name?

You don’t have to find your way back.
You just have to stop running.

“Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!”
— Luke 15:6 (NKJV)

🙏 Let This Be Your Prayer Today

Jesus, I hear You.
I’ve followed other voices — fear, pride, shame, distraction.
But today, I’m done running.
I want to follow You — my Shepherd.
Lead me. Restore me. Walk with me.
And when I can’t move — carry me.
I trust Your voice. I am Yours.
Amen.
