FROM DENIAL TO BOLDNESS

🔥 FROM DENIAL TO BOLDNESS: The Rise of Peter and the Power of the Name – JESUS

Acts 3–4

🧍‍♂️ A Lame Man Healed, a City Shaken (Acts 3:1–10)

Peter and John head to the temple during the hour of prayer. They stop at the Gate called Beautiful — a place of routine, religion, and ritual — but today, something supernatural happens.

A beggar lame from birth asks for money. He had asked for years — never expecting to walk.

Peter looks him straight in the eye and says:

“Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you:
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
 (Acts 3:6)

In the name. Not by wealth. Not by works. Not by reputation.
And the man doesn’t just walk — he leaps, dances, and praises God!

The miracle becomes the message. And the city is shaken.

📢 Peter Preaches Jesus to the Crowd (Acts 3:11–26)

The crowd gathers, stunned. Peter, once afraid to be associated with Jesus, now boldly preaches Christ crucified and risen.

He doesn’t tickle ears — he tells the truth:

“You denied the Holy One… and killed the Prince of Life…
whom God raised from the dead. Of this we are witnesses.”
 (Acts 3:14–15)

But Peter doesn’t stop at confrontation. He offers restoration:

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…” (Acts 3:19)

Grace meets truth. Mercy follows conviction.
This was not just a healing — it was a holy invitation to salvation.

⛓️ Arrested for a Miracle and a Message (Acts 4:1–4)

As Peter is still preaching, the religious leaders — especially the Sadducees (who reject the resurrection and miracles) — are greatly disturbed.

They arrest Peter and John and throw them in jail. But here’s the kingdom twist:

“However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.” (Acts 4:4)

What began with 3,000 at Pentecost has now exploded to 5,000 — not counting women and children.

Persecution couldn’t stop the church. It propelled it.

⚖️ Peter on Trial Before the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:5–12)

The next day, the highest Jewish court — Annas, Caiaphas, rulers, elders, scribes — gather to interrogate Peter and John.

This is the same elite group that sentenced Jesus.
But Peter, now filled with the Holy Spirit, speaks with power:

“By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified,
whom God raised from the dead — by Him this man stands here whole.”
 (Acts 4:10)

He then makes one of the most exclusive and powerful declarations in the New Testament:

“Nor is there salvation in any other,
for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
 (Acts 4:12)

Peter isn’t trying to get out of trouble. He’s trying to get them saved.

😮 They Recognized He Had Been With Jesus (Acts 4:13–22)

The council is stunned. These men were fishermen. Commoners.
But something had changed.

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John,
and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men,
they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”
 (Acts 4:13)

That’s the difference.
Not education. Not credentials. But time in the presence of Jesus.

They command Peter and John to stop preaching — but Peter replies:

“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
 (Acts 4:19–20)

The council threatens — but cannot deny the miracle.
The man who was lame is standing right in front of them.

They let them go.

🙏 Boldness Leads to Revival (Acts 4:23–31)

When Peter and John return to the believers, they don’t pray for safety — they pray for boldness:

“Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants
that with all boldness they may speak Your word.”
 (Acts 4:29)

The place shakes. The Spirit fills them again.
And the gospel keeps spreading like wildfire.

🔥 From Cowardice to Courage — What Happened to Peter?

  • This is the same Peter who denied Jesus three times.
  • The same Peter who cursed and ran when things got hard.
  • The same Peter who once feared a servant girl.

Now he’s preaching to thousands. Standing before rulers. Healing in Jesus’ name.

What changed?

🕊️ He had been with Jesus.
🔥 He had been filled with the Holy Spirit.
💪 He knew the resurrection was real.
💯 He refused to be silent.

📣 Final Reflection: What About You?

What’s keeping you silent?
Are you praying for boldness?
Have you been with Jesus lately?

The church grew to 5,000 not because the message was safe — but because it was true.

“We cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard.”
