In our busy schedules, finding time to read and reflect on God’s Word can indeed be challenging. Yet, making this a priority is crucial for spiritual growth and finding guidance in life. Here are a few suggestions inspired by biblical principles:
- Set Aside a Specific Time Each Day
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33). By prioritizing your time to include God first in your day, it can become a habitual part of your daily routine. Whether it’s early in the morning, during lunch, or before bed, find a time that works best for you. - Create a Dedicated Space
Having a specific place where you go to read the Bible can help minimize distractions and create a conducive environment for reflection. Jesus often went to a solitary place to pray (Mark 1:35), showing the importance of finding a quiet space for spiritual practices. - Start with a Prayer
Asking God to open your heart and mind to understand His Word can set the right tone for your reading. “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18). - Choose a Plan or a Book
Sometimes, not knowing where to start can be a barrier. Consider following a Bible reading plan or simply choose one book of the Bible to read through. The Psalms, the Gospels, or the Epistles are often good starting points. - Reflect and Apply
After reading, take a moment to reflect on what you’ve read and how it applies to your life. James 1:22 reminds us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” - Use Available Resources
If you find certain passages difficult to understand, consider using a study Bible or a commentary to gain deeper insight. - Share with Others
Discussing what you’ve read with friends or family can enrich your understanding and encourage you to keep engaging with Scripture. “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17).
Remember, the goal is not to rush through Scripture but to let the words of God truly dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). Even if it’s just a few verses a day, the important thing is to start and to be consistent. God’s Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), and by making time for it each day, you allow it to work in your heart and guide your steps.
Let’s make God’s Word a daily priority. Have any questions or thoughts?
