Just Like a Dog in the Hunt

Just like a dog in the hunt forgets about the fleas, we need to pursue God with the same unwavering focus. By diving into His Word, praying constantly, and doing His work, we can set aside life’s distractions and stay centered on God.

Diving into His Word

Psalm 119:105 (ESV) says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God’s Word guides us through life’s darkness, providing clarity and direction.

Praying Constantly

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV) instructs, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Constant prayer keeps us connected to God, helping us maintain our focus on Him.

Doing His Work

James 2:17 (ESV) reminds us, “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Active faith involves serving others and spreading God’s love, which keeps our focus on Him.

Staying Focused on God

Matthew 6:33 (ESV) directs us: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Prioritizing God above all else ensures that our needs are met as we focus on His kingdom.

This analogy of being like a dog in the hunt, so focused on pursuing God that we forget the “fleas”—the distractions of life—is a powerful reminder. Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), helps us overcome worldly cares and deepens our relationship with God. Let us dive into His Word, pray continually, and do His work, making God our top priority.
