Notes – Isaiah 11

Here is Isaiah 11 in the Smith For Christ / Amir Tsarfati format. This chapter is a stunning portrait of the Messiah’s reign—both in His first coming (as the Root of Jesse) and in the Millennial Kingdom (when the earth is full of the knowledge of the Lord). After the judgment of chapter 10, Isaiah paints a glorious future filled with justice, peace, and restoration.

Isaiah 11 – The Righteous Reign of the Branch

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” (Isaiah 11:1, NKJV)
“The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (v. 9)

🔍 CAPTURE THE SCENE (What Do I See?)

  • stump—symbolizing David’s fallen dynasty—is not dead.
  • From it will rise a Branch—the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
  • He is filled with the Spirit, rules in perfect justice, and strikes the earth with truth.
  • Nature is transformed: wolves dwell with lambs, children play safely with wild animals.
  • The curse is lifted. The King reigns.
  • worldwide regathering of Israel follows—pointing to the end-time restoration of God’s people.

📖 ANALYZE THE MESSAGE (What Does It Mean?)

1. The Branch from Jesse (v. 1)

  • “Rod” and “Branch” represent the Messianic King—Jesus, a descendant of David.
  • Jesse was David’s father, so this signals humble beginnings.

2. Sevenfold Spirit of God (v. 2)

  • The Messiah is anointed with the Spirit of the Lord, including:
    • Wisdom
    • Understanding
    • Counsel
    • Might
    • Knowledge
    • Fear of the Lord
  • Fulfilled at Jesus’ baptism (see Luke 3:22).

3. Perfect Righteousness (vv. 3–5)

  • He doesn’t judge by appearance—He sees hearts.
  • He defends the poor and judges the wicked with divine authority.
  • Righteousness and faithfulness are His belt—symbolic of character and readiness.

4. Peace in Nature (vv. 6–9)

  • Natural enemies become companions: wolf with lamb, lion eating straw, babies safe by vipers.
  • reversal of the curse—peace, safety, and innocence restored.
  • “The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord”—a universal revival and renewal.

5. A Banner for the Nations (vv. 10–12)

  • The Root of Jesse becomes a signal to all nations—Jesus is not just Israel’s Messiah, but the world’s.
  • God will gather the remnant of His people from all over the earth (Assyria, Egypt, Cush…).

6. God Reclaims and Restores (vv. 13–16)

  • Old rivalries between Ephraim and Judah will end—unity is restored.
  • God will part seas, dry up rivers—nothing will stop His deliverance.
  • There will be a “highway” for the remnant—a theme echoed in Isaiah 35 and 40.

🔄 COMPARE WITH THE REST OF SCRIPTURE

  • Messianic Fulfillment:
    • Matthew 1:1 – Jesus is Son of David.
    • Revelation 5:5 – “The Root of David has prevailed…”
  • Sevenfold Spirit:
    • Revelation 1:4 and 4:5 – Seven Spirits before God’s throne.
    • Zechariah 4 – God’s Spirit empowers His work.
  • Kingdom Peace:
    • Romans 8:21 – Creation longs to be released from corruption.
    • Revelation 21:4 – No more death, sorrow, or pain.
  • Regathering of Israel:
    • Ezekiel 37:21–22 – Israel restored as one nation.
    • Matthew 24:31 – Angels gather His elect from all corners of the earth.

🛠 EXECUTE – How Does This Affect My Life?

Key Principle: Christ’s rule brings peace, justice, restoration, and unity—both spiritually now and globally in the coming Kingdom. Live today as a citizen of that Kingdom.

  1. Trust the Root of Jesse
    • Jesus came from a humble root—but He reigns in glory.
    • Your beginnings don’t determine your eternal purpose.
  2. Live by the Spirit
    • The same Spirit that filled the Messiah empowers you.
    • Seek wisdom, counsel, and reverence in your daily walk.
  3. Rest in His Justice
    • You don’t have to fix every injustice—Jesus will judge righteously.
    • Advocate for the poor, but leave final judgment to the Lord.
  4. Let Peace Rule in You
    • God’s Kingdom is a kingdom of peace.
    • Bring that peace into your relationships, church, and conversations.
  5. Pray for Israel’s Restoration
    • Isaiah prophesies a future regathering of the Jewish people.
    • Support, pray for, and bless God’s chosen people.
